چکیده

objective: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the solubility of three luting cements in artificial saliva. materials and methods: twenty disks (10×4 mm) of polycarboxylate, zinc phosphate and glass ionomer cements were prepared according to manufactures’ instructions. after setting, they were desiccated and each ten specimens were immersed in artificial saliva with special ph (3 or 5), circulated with magnetic field for 10 days. then disks were again desiccated and weighed. solubility values were deduced from these different measures. results: for the two ph, solubility were significantly lower in glass ionomer luting ce-ment, and polycarboxylate showed the most weight loss of all the materials tested (p<0.05). the solubility values were more in acidic environment (p<0.05). conclusion: the ph of the environment strongly affected the solubility of the materials. cement type also has significant effects on solubility values.

The solubility and disintegration of some dental luting cements.

Available technical methods do not permit the fabri cation of dental restorations outside the mouth which will not expose the cementing medium to the influence of the oral fluids. Although meticulous craftsmanship may attain very high standards of marginal adap tation in such restorations the solubility and disinte gration of cementing media is still considered suffi ciently important to wa...

Evaluating the effect of ceramic veneer thickness on degree of conversion in three luting resin cements

compare the effect of different ceramic thicknesses on degree of conversion (DC) of 3 light-cured resin cements. Methods: In this experimental in-vitro study, the degree of conversion of three light-cured resin cements, Variolink Veneer (Ivoclar, Liechtenstein), RelyX Veneer (3M ESPE, USA) and Choice2 (Bisco, USA) were evaluated beneath feldespatic ceramic discs (Vita VMK Master) with a same sh...

Ten years' clinical evaluation of three luting cements.

OBJECTIVE The aim of the present clinical longitudinal study was to observe, over 10 years, the prognosis of abutment teeth restored with fixed prostheses retained by glass ionomer luting cements and one conventional zinc phosphate cement. METHODS Three dentists prepared 135 abutment teeth in 61 patients to retain 81 fixed prostheses. The prostheses were retained by two glass ionomer luting c...

Evaluation of Compressive Strength and Sorption/Solubility of Four Luting Cements

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Compressive strength (CS) and sorption/solubility of the luting cements are two associated factors. Searching a correlation between sorption/solubility and compressive strength of various luting cements is required. OBJECTIVES To measure the water sorption/solubility, and compressive strength of three resin-based and one conventional glass ionomer (CGI) luting cement afte...

In vivo disintegration of luting cements.

The in vivo disintegration of luting cements was determined at 6- and 12-month intervals in two test series of 20 participants each. Four cements were inserted in the wells located in the mesial and distal surfaces of cast crowns. Glass ionomer, silicophosphate, polycarboxylate, and zinc phosphate cements prepared with recommended powder/liquid ratios are discussed, and are ranked with respect ...
